My top ten favourite music artists

See Getting personal: A few top ten lists for the background on this series of top ten posts (this is the second post in the series).

Just because an artist has made one of my top ten favourite music albums it doesn’t mean they make it onto this top ten list of music artists. This list is where longevity and overall quality counts.

Sure, I’ll admit that in some cases this list is influenced by nostalgia as well, but I have taken the entire career (until the present day for those who are still active) of these artists into account here. Some of these artists I do not currently listen to a whole lot, but they still account for many, many months of listening throughout the years.

The list is ordered alphabetically, which means I have not ranked the artists. Picking ten is hard enough as it is.

Note: All links are Amazon affiliate links.

Of course this sort of list is always changing – ask me next month and the list will probably be quite different.

Now it’s your turn – which are your ten favourite music artists? If you want to share, do so either by posting a comment with your list or by posting a link to your own blog.

Hold on. You get changes in your favourite artists every month?

Wither longevity??? :)

pauldwaite: Heheh, wither longevity indeed :-P. Seriously though, it's because I have many many more favourite artists. Which are on the list depends on my mood and what I've been listening to lately.

9. July 6, 2007 by Aaron Cooke

My top 10 would probably be...

  • Bob Marley
  • The Beatles
  • Fat Freddys Drop
  • Jack Johnson
  • The Klaxons
  • Massive Attack
  • Morcheeba
  • Red Hot Chili Peppers
  • Trinity Roots
  • Zero 7

That was a hard choice. Would have been harder if I could remember the stuff I used to listen to!

Strangely enough, my tastes very closely mirror yours. That never happens. I always seem to find out that my favorite bloggers listen to the DMB and my heart sinks... because I'm an opinionated jackass. I would simply add:

  • Black Rebel Motorcycle Club
  • The Fall
  • The Ramones
  • Imogen Heap (for my pop moments)

Gotta love Miles and I didn't know anybody else still like the SOM. ;).

  4. The Cure // yes, Porn0graphy is the best ;)

12. July 6, 2007 by Daniel Anderson Tiecher

Yes, this is an ordered list. ;)

  1. Dream Theater
  2. Ayreon
  3. Aina
  4. Avantasia
  5. Rhapsody
  6. Tool
  7. Symphony X
  8. Loreena Mckennitt
  9. Kamelot
  10. Blind Guardian

To put it simple: lots of progressive, power, melodic, folk and symphonic metal (all those sub-genres that almost no one understand...). I admit that the large majority of my list would please only the metalheads of the world. But I encourage anyone who likes good music to listen to Dream Theater. They're among the best musicians in all the musical world. Try renting the "Live at Budokan" DVD and see for yourself.

13. July 6, 2007 by zimmi

  8. Hapka, Horáček (other another Czech composers)
  9. Bob Marley
  10. Jana Kirschner (a Slovak one)

And if you are interested in my top ten sexy, beautiful and gorgeous women, check out my list :o). I think publishing your 10 beautiful women would be as interesting (maybe even more) as your 10 favourite music artists.

If you like Massive Attack, I think RJD2 is kind of a hip-hop version of Massive Attack. I think that's a lame description, but I won't delete it. If you take away RJD2's vocals, you're still left with a decent melody, it was a nice introduction to rap for me. (Although I'm hesitant to call him a rap artist, many of his songs don't have vocals at all) A good first track is 'Ghostwriter'.

In other news, Wilco 'just' came out with a new album, holy shit!

And yay for Nine Inch Nails.

Sam:

Have you heard the Editors? Also very like Joy Division. I must get some Interpol stuff to listen to.

BTW, Today I realized that when you have 500+ cool bands in your favorite's list, it's really hard to pick 10 or 20 out of 'em. I wanted to add '3 Doors Down', 'Kelly Clarkson', 'Sting', 'Enrique Iglesias' and a few other bands/artists but the list would cross 20+ this way. Well..

28. July 8, 2007 by ChristianD

Well, as the commersial radio junkie I am I don't really have any favourites. But I think that these artists are very good:

  • Lars Winnerbäck

  • Da Buzz

  • Kent

  • Per Gessle

Hmm, an all Swedish list, not really my attention but whatever :)

But then there are some artists that have some really awesome songs that could qualify them for my list, for example

  • The Fray

  • Snowpatrol

  • Sunrise Avenue

  • Blank & Jones

  • Darude

  • Bartez

Funny how every time somebody posts a "top 10" list everyone else posts their own list which is very different from the topic starter's list. Just an observation.
