Getting personal: A few top ten lists
As regular readers will know, I rarely talk about personal or private matters here. It is partly because I want to keep this site on topic, partly because I don’t particularly enjoy reading what other people have to write about their personal lives, and don’t really expect others to be interested in what I do on my free time.
But a number of readers have been asking for a little more personality around here, so I am going to make an exception. After all, it’s summer here in Sweden, I’m on vacation, and what I am going to write about is in many ways easier to write about than web design and development stuff.
What I’ve done is make a few top ten lists of non-web related subjects that interest me. By learning what my preferences are in those areas, I think you will be able to sort of get to know me. Or not. Anyway, I think top ten lists can be a bit of fun too, so if you have a few minutes please do post your own lists in a comment on the appropriate post (not on this post) or on your own blog. Whatever works best for you.
Over the next week or two I will post the following top ten lists:
- My top ten favourite music albums
- My top ten favourite music artists
- My top ten favourite novels
- My top ten favourite computer games
- My top ten favourite console games
Better start thinking about your own top tens!

What - no movies? Always a sure fire winner. Maybe you're not into them. Looking forward to the lists regardless.
One I always find really interesting to read and list myself is "Top 10 Places in The World To Visit". Any chance of one of those too? :-)
My top ten favourite music albums
My top ten favourite music artists
...
Rob: Nope, I'm not really into movies.
Adrian: Maybe :-).
Johan: A little impatient, huh. Wait for me to post those top tens before posting yours ;-).
Nice list, Johan. I couldn't agree more with numbers 3, 7 and 8. You don't hear many mentions of Polvo in the world. What a great band.
No offense, but I think you were completely right. We got to know you just as well for what you wrote about web standards and accessibility.
Carolina: I'm not turning this blog into a cat blog. I will be writing more about web standards and accessibility, don't worry about that :-).
First thing I thought coming to your blog today was that something really strange happened..I am not this kind of person who does not care about personal life of others, but... to be honest.. people come here for professional reasons.. how do you think?
Rafal: Yes, most people definitely come here for professional reasons, but there are many who like a little bit of off-topic stuff as well. This is just a temporary thing I'm doing because I'm on vacation, the rain is pouring down, and... I just felt like it.
Just skip the top ten posts if you're not interested :-). I will continue to post normal, Web related articles, either inbetween the top ten posts or once I've published the lot of them.
Huh, never had you down as a gamer! I'll be curious to see which games pop up in your top 10.
These posts will certainly make a change. Yeah, you keep this site for web dev stuff the way I keep my site just for web design stuff (and use virb for everything else)....makes sense to me. :)
I really, really like not having to read about your cat that sneezed twice in a row - however some side-info, from time to time, isn't too bad either. The truth is, as it most always is, somewhere in the middle.
Hope you are having a great vacation, Roger! Looking forward to your top tens.
I can't wait! Hope the sun comes back again soon!
Awesome! I love it when my favorite bloggers add something personal to the mix. Look forward to it!
Aah... summer rain in Sweden. How I wish I were there!
Well, I am a bit surprised. In fact I never expected you to get personal on this blog. Maybe a bit of information about yourself is interesting, maybe not, we'll see. Just make sure you keep the number of offtopic posts small. :)
By the way, I noticed a small bug just now: The comment preview doesn't respect my layout choice. I really like the white-on-black version.
I'm on vacation too :-)
I'm always interested in learning about other's personal experiences, but it really comes down to what you want to do with your own site. Professionalism is admirable, but personal bits are always interesting. You're on vacation after all, why not have some fun? ;)
This is great! Here’s my Top 10 of Top 10s
