Tagged, so here are four things

Yeah, yeah, memes are silly. But since Veerle tagged me with this one that lets me get just a little bit more personal, I’ll play along. Just in case you’re interested.

Four jobs I’ve had in my life

  • Paperboy
  • Strawberry picker
  • Paper machine assistant
  • Web designer/developer

Four movies I can watch over and over

  • -

None. I don’t watch a lot of movies, and watching a movie more than once seems completely pointless to me.

Four places I have lived

  • Ludvika, Sweden
  • Ibbarbo, Sweden
  • Pretoria, South Africa
  • Borlänge, Sweden

Four TV shows I love to watch

  • ER
  • Mythbusters
  • Coupling
  • This life

I had to think hard to come up with four TV shows and I couldn’t even come up with four current ones. I don’t watch a lot of TV.

Four places I have been on vacation

  • Durban
  • Cape Town
  • Rio de Janeiro
  • Miami

Four of my favourite dishes

  • Fried halloumi with bulgur wheat
  • Minced meat pie
  • Homemade hamburgers
  • Swedish meatballs

Four websites I visit daily

I visit a lot of other sites every day, but I keep track of them through my feed reader. I am not a big user of web browser bookmarks.

Four places I would rather be right now

  • Exploring another planet
  • On a warm and sunny beach at the start of a three month vacation
  • In my favourite espresso bar
  • Fishing in a beautiful lake

Four bloggers I am tagging

Those are some very interesting "4 somethings".

2. January 26, 2006 by Lachlan Hunt

It seems that nearly every blog I read has been tagged by someone this week. I guess my turn will come soon. :-)

3. January 26, 2006 by Tristan Dunn

Finally, someone else who sees no value in watching a movie more than once!

4. January 26, 2006 by theUg

“Fishing in a lake”? Certain Italian Americans would call it “swimming with fishes”. ;) “At a lake”, I believe, would be tad more appropriate. :) Justalittleneatpick.

5. January 26, 2006 by theUg

By the way, on a serious note, would you say “Fishing in a lake” in Swedish? For instance, in Russian we say “Fishing on a lake”.

As for motion pictures, there are certain films that deserve rerun. Not only story matters, but acting, the art of cinematograph, immersive atmosphere — you name it. Say, out of the recent films, I would watch “Memoires of a Geisha” another couple times.

theUg: I did the Google test and got 536 matches for "fishing at a lake" and 13 500 for "fishing in a lake", so at least I'm not alone ;-). You can say either in Swedish.

Hooray for coupling! I thought I was the only person who watched it. Halloumi is the shiznik.

Re the argument over 'in' or 'on' - nothing can beat the German 'fallschirmspringen' (sp.?). It means parachuting. Translated literally to English it's 'falling-umbrella-jumping'. How good is that?

8. January 26, 2006 by Veerle Pieters

Hey thanks for not being mad at me. I like your first 2 'places I would rather be right now' :-) Oh, catch me another salmon please so I can prepare that favorite dish of mine again :o)

I don't fully understand why most people seem to watch movies one single time. It makes me feel like a freak since I usually watch more reruns than single runs, while bearing in mind that I watched approximately 120 individual movies last year. Perhaps I'm too stupid, but watching reruns most often brings forth a lot of details I missed the first time. However, I do understand why I'm probably the only one around who watch a single movie three times in a row at the cinemas. :)

I have heard in general – from a certain bloke - most home-grown Swedish TV was dire; is your opinion the same?

11. January 26, 2006 by Farrel Hardenberg

I'm from Cape Town and I'm glad you could be witness to the beauty of our city.

Do visit again soon.

Ok, here goes:

Four things.

13. January 26, 2006 by Matt Robin

I was going to tag you Roger...but then I thought 'Nah - he's farrrrr too serious for these sorts of things!'

How wrong could I be?! ;)

(And yeah - I struggled on the TV one too because I don't even watch TV anymore!)

And I'm done too:

Four things

How does one go about tagging someone?

I swear, of all the people I know personally, I am the biggest nerd - I spend almost all my time on my laptop, design websites for a living, read about 20 blogs regularly, write my own blog about web design and standards, absolutely LOVE to code, and have submitted four designs to the CSS Zen Garden.

Now, I know those aren't especially impressive nerd credentials on THIS site, but they are pretty conclusive in the REGULAR world.

Now - if someone like me feels regularly out of the loop then what, in the name of God, does it take to have a handle on all the latest buzz all the time? Sheesh!

Ok, sorry for my little rant, but ... seriously ... what is this tagging business that I've been hearing about and seeing all over the place, and how does one DO it??

(BTW, am I alone here, or do other nerds not wish to admit their cluelessness???)

16. January 27, 2006 by Robert Nyman

Mani,

Feel free to share your four things at my web site, I kind of dedicated the comment area to people who weren't tagged.

17. January 29, 2006 by Roger Johansson

Mani: You just wait, and if you're lucky (if you want to be tagged that is), somebody mentions you in their post ;-).

18. January 30, 2006 by Steve Bennet

Somebody tag me too, please.

19. January 31, 2006 by Mani Sheriar

How would one know if they've been tagged? Would they have to discover it themselves?

20. January 31, 2006 by Roger Johansson

Mani: Unless the person who tags you lets you know, yes. When Veerle tagged me I read about it in her RSS feed, but even if I hadn't been subscribed to her feed I would have noticed that I'd been tagged in my referrer logs.

21. February 6, 2006 by Reine

I've never before heard of anyone going to Durban. Cool!

22. February 7, 2006 by Martin McKenna

@ Robert Wellock

I have heard in general from a certain bloke - most home-grown Swedish TV was dire; is your opinion the same?

There's a joke, oft-repeated (not least by me): - Have you ever had a near-death experience? - No, but I have watched Swedish TV

23. June 29, 2006 by Drinnon Ettienne

Id love to be tagged too :)
