Roger Hudson’s Accessible Data Tables is a very comprehensive article on the correct use of HTML tables. Among other things, the article discusses screen reader support for the scope and headers attributes used to help screen readers associate data cells with their relevant table headers.
A good companion to my own Bring on the tables.
