Safari 1.3
Apple just released an update for Mac OS X, which brings it to version 10.3.9. The update includes Safari 1.3, a new version with lots of improvements.
Speaking of Safari updates, in case you’ve missed it it’s been very exciting the last few days to follow Dave Hyatt’s progress on making Safari pass The Acid2 Browser Test. Now if only all browser makers were this agile. Check out his reports, starting with The Acid2 Test, Row One.

Thanks Roger. Very interesting. Do you own a Mac yourself?
Yep. I've been a Mac user since... let me think... around 1990. Never owned a PC.
I upgraded (didn't realize it) and now whenever I select text everything is very messed up. I wish I hadn't.
Ah. Thanks Roger. I thought you might be on a Mac.
I just noticed that Safari 1.3 allows more styling of form controls - text and background colours of text inputs can be changed now. Guess I'll have to update some of my screenshots ;-p
Huh. Interesting to hear about styling form elements. I thought it was a conscious decision not to allow that, that it was regarded similar to the styling of scrollbars in IE 5.5+ (i.e. something the page designer shouldn't be allowed to do).
Personally, I think it's ok to style form elements, as long as it doesn't affect accesibility and go totally over the top.
Unfortunately Safari 1.3 also has serious onunload problems: most of the time the event doesn't fire.
Robert: From my limited testing it looks like changing text and background colour of text inputs is the only change. Let's hope it stays there.
ppk: Ouch. Have you found any other problems related to JavaScript?
Roger: There are couple of serious bugs related to XMLhttprequest. There is more about this in comments over at Hyatt's blog. :-/
Overall there are some good things in 1.3 but many bugs. :(
10.3.9 has various problems which can be solved. One is with Safari. Safari crashes when going to certain websites. Second is Norton's LiveUpDate. The following are the steps which you should take to correct the problems. 1. Go to http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/javaupdateformacosx1039.html And download. 2. Install the product. 3. No need to restart. 4. Install the Norton's DVD. 5. Reinstall Systemworks. 6. CUSTOMIZE LIVEUPDATE only. 7. LIVEUPDATE should run and upgrade the product. 8. Remove the DVD.
