Sorry to butt into an accessibility thread but the dreaded SEO also pops up when it comes to AJAX. It’s actually a primary question I get asked and when I mention the link you posted regarding accessibility it does cast doubts over the investment into this area. AJAX and SEO serves to answer a few questions in this field. I’m all for ‘New Web’ and hopefully answers to problems will be borne from the widespread adoption of this technology.
